Ginger to reduce NETosis activity

For years, Dr. Demoruelle has been investigating how overactive neutrophils, a process called NETosis, can contribute to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and interstitial lung disease (ILD). Her ultimate goal is to discover treatments that reduce NETosis to better treat or even prevent these conditions. Inspired by studies suggesting ginger might help restrain NETosis, Dr. Demoruelle co-led the first study examining the effects of ginger supplements in healthy adults. That study found ginger supplements could indeed reduce NETosis activity in healthy people, paving the way for the next step, which is to see if these benefits also occur in people with inflammatory diseases like RA.

Thanks to generous donor support, Dr. Demoruelle is now able to explore whether ginger supplements can help to restrain NETosis in people with RA and another NET-mediated inflammatory disease called vasculitis. If successful, this research could lead to safe, accessible treatment options for people living with these conditions, and it's all made possible by philanthropic donations.
