News and Achievements

  • August 2025 – Our work that found elevated lung levels of NETs are associated with worse outcomes in patients with IPF is now in press at the journal iScience. Congrats to lead author, Dr. Scott Matson!

  • July 2025 – Dr. Daniele Marcy's work entitled "Calprotectin and Anti-CCP Antibodies Predict Development of Preeclampsia" was accepted for an oral abstract presentation at the upcoming 2025 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

  • July 2025 – Dr. Caroline Maretz's work entitled "Effectiveness of Reproductive Health Counseling for Rheumatology Patients" was accepted for a poster presentation at the upcoming 2025 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

  • July 2025 – Dr. Tim Wilson's work entitled "Sputum Anti-CCP-IgA and NET-Associated Proteins Predict Risk and Timing of the Transition From Systemic Autoimmunity to Classified RA" was accepted for an oral abstract presentation at the upcoming 2025 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

  • July 2025 – Dr. Daniele Marcy received the NIH's Loan Repayment Program award - Congrats Daniele!

  • June 2025 – Our work that identified higher levels of sputum TGF-B levels in the lungs of patients with RA-ILD was published in the journal Rheumatology. Congrats to lead author, Dr. Tim Wilson!

  • June 2025 – Dr. Kristen Demoruelle presented her work that revealed sputum calprotectin levels are decreased in the year prior to the onset of RA in a poster presentation at the 2025 European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology Annual Meeting.

​​

  • May 2025 – Dr. Daniele Marcy presented her work that found lower levels of NETs in women taking oral contraceptive pills in a poster presentation at the 13th International Conference on Reproduction, Pregnancy and Rheumatic Diseases.

​

  • April 2025 – Drs. Melissa Griffith and Kristen Demoruelle join The Collaborative, National Quality and Efficacy Registry (CONQUER) that is a national scleroderma prospective registry and biobank.

  • March 2025 – Dr. Daniele Marcy presented her work that demonstrated higher blood levels of calprotectin predict development of preeclampsia in pregnant women in a poster presentation at the University of Colorado’s Ludeman Center Women’s Health Research Day.

  • March 2025 – Dr. Hideto Takada has finished his post-doc with our team and will start his faculty position at Tokyo Women's University Hospital. Congrats Hide!

  • November 2024 – Dr. Hideto Takada presented his work that identified an expansion of small macrophages by flow cytometry in the sputum of individuals at risk for RA in a poster presentation at the 2024 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

  • November 2024 – Dr. Daniele Marcy presented her work that demonstrated increased anti-CCP generation in the female genital tract of postpartum women without RA in a poster presentation at the 2024 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

  • August 2024 – Drs. Scott Matson and Kristen Demoruelle published an insightful review of the epidemiology, therapeutic options, and pathogenic pathways in connective tissue disease associated ILD.

 

  • July 2024 – Our work the found elevated levels of T peripheral helper cells in individuals at risk for RA was published in Arthritis & Rheumatology. Congrats to lead author, Dr. Hideto Takada!

  • January 2024 – Dr. Demoruelle was awarded an NIH R21 that will study "Sputum Tph Cells and CD14+CD16+ Monocytes in the Development of RA. 

​

  • December 2023 – Drs. Kristen Demoruelle and Daniele Marcy were invited speakers at the Arthritis Foundation Winter 2023 Rheumatology Healthcare Dinner, where they discussed "Mucosal Autoimmunity and Sex Differences in RA Pathogenesis."

​​

  • November 2023 – Dr. Rachna Talluri presented her work that revealed the sputum citrullinome in at risk individuals who developed RA in a poster presentation at the 2023 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

​​

  • November 2023 – Dr. Daniele Marcy presented her work that found lower plasma NET levels in premenopausal women using birth control pills in a poster presentation at the 2023 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

  • November 2023 – Dr. Tim Wilson presented his work that found the bacteria lautropia was decreased in the sputum of patients with RA-ILD and associated with lung disease severity in a poster presentation at the 2023 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

  • September 2023 – Our work showing that ginger supplements suppress NETosis in people was published in JCI Insight. This exciting work was featured by multiple news outlets and suggests promising avenues for modulating NETosis in the treatment of autoimmune disease. 

 

  • July 2023 – Dr. Daniele Marcy and Dr. Roshale Fernando join the team as post-doctoral fellows. Welcome!​​​

  • May 2023 – Dr. Demoruelle was an invited speaker at the American Society for Reproductive Immunology Meeting, discussing "Rheumatic Disease & Pregnancy."

​

  • April 2023 – Dr. Demoruelle was invited to give a talk on “Scleroderma-associated ILD and Pulmonary Rehab” at the Denver Scleroderma Education Day @ UC Health.

​

  • March 2023 – Our work finding anti-PAD4 antibodies are associated with less severe disease in patients with RA-ILD was published in the American Journal of Medical Sciences.

  • February 2023 – Dr. Demoruelle presented her work on “The Lung and NETosis in the Development of RA” at the University of Michigan Rheumatology Grand Rounds.

​

  • November 2022 – Dr. Daniele Marcy presented her work on RA-associated autoantibodies in the female genital tract in women with and without RA at the 2022 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.

​

  • November 2022 – Dr. Tim Wilson presented his work on sputum RA autoantibodies predict future development of RA at the 2022 American College of Rheumatology Convergence Meeting.
